Beitbridge’s English Premier League Teams will this Saturday clash in a round-robin soccer tourney designed as a fundraiser for Division One side Dulibadzimu United Football Club.
The showdown has been slotted for Ronnie’s Sports Arena this Saturday and it is also expected to be a family event where Beitbridge residents with gather bidding goodbye to what has perhaps been the coldest winter in living memory.
One of the organisers of the event Amos Chagwedera popularly known as “Amogo” said supporters of Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City and perennial winners Manchester United will pay R500 for their team to participate.
“We are having this event as a fund raiser for our Division One side. Funds raised will be used for the players welfare. We are having this initiative as the team’s supporters,” he said.
Apart from soccer there will be other activities and some supporters have suggested the provision of children’s play stations like jumping castles to have an all round family fun station.
“We are going to have on-field running events for bulk men and women. We are also looking at Tug of War. We want to create fun for people of Beitbridge in our quest to bring premiership football into Beitbridge, ” said Amogo who I also the vice chairperson of Dulibadzimu United Supporters group.
The EPL teams supporters have been playing tournaments in the past all which were won by Manchester United despite its poor performance abroad.

“We need to support our local teams so they get promoted into premiership. It is incumbent upon us to facilitate the promotion of local teams so our children watch top flight football when other teams come to play here, we owe this to our children,” said Boyd Maphosa, a Manchester United FC supporter who is also a Dulibadzimu United FC faithful.
