It was a day to remember for many soccer and music lovers at Dulivhadzimu stadium on Saturday afternoon when the Beitbridge Legends beat the colourful side the Musicians Select with one goal to nil.
The stadium was filled to capacity by 1pm before the kick off time at 3pm.
Veteran player Clemence Mabhureza’s solitary goal in the 62nd minute put the hosts in the lead and was enough to snatch the three points.
Popular DJ, Fantan nearly pulled an equaliser in the 70th minute but unfortunately the goal was disallowed for offside.
The match was sponsored by Remington Gold and jointly hosted by Mr Khathu Muleya of Skeem Beit, and prominent icon in the music business Patson ‘Chipaz’ Chimboza.
It was a fun filled day which united the Beitbridge community to celebrate sports and arts.
“We are so grateful as musicians to have had an opportunity to blend sungura and zimdance hall and come up with something so spectacular, a big thank you to the organisers as well for such an event” said Dj Fantan
“As the local soccer legends, we are excited to have met with some of the artists whom we always hear on the radio, and thank you to the organisers for such a well organised event” said Mabureza
The major highlight of the day was when the popular DJ Fantan was introduced and made a quick impact by scoring a goal which the referee signalled for an offside.
Security marshals had to disperse hundreds of supporters who had filled the pitch to celebrate the short lived excitement.
Shinsoman, King Shaddy, Danza D, Ndunge Yut, Peter Moyo and the music gaffers Mechanic Manyeruke, Kireni zule were part of the musicians’ side that made the day for Beitbridge residents.
