THE Rex Mphisa captained Manchester United Supporters FC at Beitbridge ruled the roost comfortably winning its two matches to be crowned winners of a fun-filled fund-raising tournament at the Mabhidhi Ronnie’s Sports Arena on Saturday.
At least R10 000 was raised in the matches and this will go towards the welfare of players of Beitbridge’s community team Dulibadzimu United.
“We Want to thank our community radio station for advertising the match. We raised more than R10 000 and they did a good job telling the community about the event,” one of the event organisers Amos “Amogo’ Chagwedera told Lotsha FM.
He said similar events would follow up to continue raising funds for the purpose.
In the games Liverpool and Manchester City spoilt the fun after failing to make full squads at the kick off time resulting in delays in kicking off the tournament which however at the end lived to expectations.
The opening match was between Chelsea and Arsenal a nd it started at a slow pace but Chelsea  later went into overdrive taking their star-studded opponents to the cleaners.
Happymore Nyika was Chelsea’s man of the moment when he capitalised on two defensive errors after the break to get his brace.
Nyika who came in as a substitute in the second half was full of running and outran Malume on the left defence of Arsenal to slot home in an empty net twice after losing the keeper to his right.
In the other match Arsenal and Liverpool playing for third and fourth positions drew one all in a game full of surprises and a missed penalty by Arsenal.
The final pitted Chelsea and Manchester with the latter making easy meat of the confused Blues who exhibited more physic than soccer skills.
The Mandla Kombat and Given Mbedzi coached United ran rings around the hapless Chelsea team where goal getter Nyika, Knowledge Kili, stadium owner Tinashe Mabhidhi and the evergreen Thomas Kombora were outstanding.
Defending champions United had several moments of brilliance and easily pushed away Manchester City and Chelsea to take the honors. Toast of the day was the diminutive Garnacho!
The after parties by different teams were mouth-watering when the teams when it was time to party.
Members pooled resources and bought food cooked and shared at the venue.
