Dulibadzimu Surgery removes medical waste from the streets after public outcry

Health Reporter

Community members got outraged by pictures of medical waste that was alleged to have been dumped in a public space by workers at the Dulibadzimu Surgery.

Pictures were circulating on social media platforms at the weekend with Medical waste like used medical gloves, Intro-venous pipes and syringe packaging amongst other things*.

One resident who spoke on condition of animosity said dumping medical waste everywhere is dangerous and poses a Health hazard to the Community. He went on to say some of the waste was in the middle of the road where it can be easily accessible to children.

Mr Obvious Mahunze, who is a BB resident, said it was probably an omission on the part of Dulivhadzimu Surgery and he hopes the responsible authorities will find better ways of disposing of their waste as embedded in their Standards and Procedures in place.

A Municipality of Beitbridge Health Department spokesperson was not available to comment.

A comment was sought from one of the doctors operating at the surgery who said she was not in a position to respond.

However, the surgery workers have swiftly removed the solid waste from the streets.
