Govt acts on drugs and substance abuse-VP Chiwenga

Vice President Constantino Chiwenga has said the government is concerned with the rampant drugs and substance abuse in the country and that it has started making corrective measures.

He made the remarks while leading the World Children’s Day Commemorations at Malala Primary school on Thursday.
After the Malala event he also went on to light the blue lights at the border in line with the commemoration’s tradition.
The Vice President said if left unattended to, the drugs and substance abuse will cause untold damage to lives and livelihoods of young people of Zimbabwe.
He added that the reality is not lost on the child parliamentarians, who have highlighted the risen on several occasions.
Vice President Chiwenga said the government had since set up an Inter-Ministerial Committee to formulate strategies and coordinate responses to the issue of drug and substance abuse in the country.

He said the government cannot allow the future of children to be stolen by the scourge of drug and substance abuse.
Speaking during the same event, Chief Tshithaudze appealed for government to give the fight on drugs and substance abuse the importance it deserves.

He said the drugs peddlers should be dealt ruthlessly with, just like the stock thieves in the region who threaten the general livelihoods of people in the community.
The traditional leader said drugs were affecting learning in most areas and distracting youngest people who have talent and a promising futures.
